Wood cooked food is my favorite.
I’ve cooked on antique enamled cookstoves, wood heating stoves I threw foil wrapped sweet potatoes and squash into, and of course the beloved open camp fire.
I was delighted to find the super efficient little Biolite stove I use for my outside cooking. It stashes under the teak table in a small bag. Two aluminum fold up tables for it sit in a carry bag alongside the freezer.
There is a fan inside that fans the flames, recharges itself and even charges my cell from the heat. I cook most meals with one 5” piece of split 2×4. Twigs from the edge of a park are easily collected to cook with too but when I find lumber scraps I prefer their more even and denser heat.

Update: I’ve moved up to the larger Biolite basecamp model. It has a pizza stone for baking and uses standard length fireplace wood. It’s a space sacrifice so we will see how long it lasts. The original Biolite works just as well for 1 or 2 people.
My Uni brand wood fired pizza oven makes an incredible authentic Italian pizza. It comes apart easily to fit in the Prius.
The new larger Biolite.
